3、Lighter goods should be placed on top of heavier ones.

4、Goods with weaker packaging should be placed on top of those with more robust packaging.

16 Tips for Loading a Shipping Container

1、Be cautious when loading the container when the loading rate reaches 90%.

2、Check the container carefully when it arrives, compare the container number with the box number on the paper, keep the seal given by the driver safe, and record the seal number.

3、The weight of cargo consolidation in the container must not exceed the maximum loading capacity of the container, which is obtained by subtracting the weight of the container itself from the total weight of the container. The total weight and self-weight are generally indicated on the container door.

4、The unit weight of each container is fixed, so when loading the same kind of goods, the density of the cargo consolidation can determine whether it is heavy or light.

5、Load the cargo balanced to avoid an uneven weight distribution, especially when the load center of gravity is biased to one end.

6、When loading heavy equipment such as machinery, the container bottom should be covered with cushioning materials, such as wooden boards, to distribute the load as much as possible to avoid a concentrated load.

7、When loading by hand, pay attention to the loading and unloading signs, such as “This Side Up,” “Fragile,” and “Handle With Care.” Use appropriate loading tools and avoid using hooks to tie up packages. The cargo consolidation inside the container should be packed neatly and tightly. For loose or fragile items, use padding or insert plywood between them to prevent them from moving inside the container.

8、When loading palletized cargo, accurately measure the internal dimensions of the container and the external dimensions of the cargo packaging to calculate the number of loading units to minimize waste space and maximize cargo capacity.

9、When calculating the loading plan, remember that two corner irons protruding from the top left and right corners inside the container, requiring about 10x10x15CM space. Also, cardboard boxes are not standard items. Before loading, measure the actual size instead of relying solely on the data from the cardboard factory. Furthermore, cardboard boxes with goods inside may protrude slightly in the middle compared to the sides. Therefore, it is prudent to keep a space of about two centimeters around the edge of the container when calculating the loading plan.

11、Cardboard boxes are elastic and will naturally become more compact when stacked. Before loading, communicate with the loading and unloading foreman to provide a rough idea of the loading plan. However, do not become complacent because physical work can be distracting. Always keep an eye on the loading process.

12、When loading with a forklift, there are restrictions on the maximum lifting height and door frame height. Therefore, if conditions permit, the forklift can load two layers at a time, but there should be a certain gap between them.

13、Generally, forklifts with a normal lifting capacity of 2 tons have a maximum lifting height of about 1250px. However, there is also a type of forklift with a fully free lifting height, which is not limited by the height of the door frame as long as the height inside the container allows it. It is very convenient for stacking two layers of goods. Additionally, it is necessary to ensure there is cushioning material at the bottom of the cargo.

14、It is best not to ship goods without packaging. At the very least, there should be some packaging to prevent damage to the goods. Don’t just try to save space by shipping goods without proper packaging; most goods have some packaging available.

15、Using silica gel particles in women’s mid-length nylon stockings is a cost-effective and effective way to prevent moisture. This method doesn’t take up much space, and four or five bags of silica gel in a 20-foot container is usually sufficient.

16、Unless there is a clear reason to do so, do not easily accept the advice of the movers. Often, their advice is based on convenience and labor-saving, rather than proper container loading. Remember, if there is a problem with the container loading, you cannot shift the blame to the workers.
